2011 YEAR END REVIEW

Hello Everyone ;

Although the 2011 Season proved to be one of the most challenging years we have ever had to face due to the 2011 Government Man Made Spring/Summer Lake Manitoba Flood, we survived and are ready to get back at it for the 2012 Season.   I have learnt this past year that with dealing with government officials at every level proved to be a dead end road, and with the false promises they make of helping the business owners who suffered at the hands of the government with this flood were nothing more than empty promises that amounted to nothing but a bunch of hot air. Many government workers filled their pockets with the flood monies promised by the government, but the true victims still remain the true victims at the hands of the government.  I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the guests who had to climb over tiger dikes and sandbags ,etc during this past season and even though we were under water you still supported us  and we thank you for that.  We however missed out on a lot of our guests due to the flooding , but assure you that no more tiger dikes, sandbags for us as we go into our 2012 season .

With the challenges of this flood we still maintained a world class fishing and hunting season.  We ran at a smaller capacity level than we had anticipated, but still managed to show our guests the benefits of staying with us at the Agassiz Waterhen River Lodge and what our historic area has to offer.

Opening finally for 2012 is our “Master Angler Getaway”.  This cabin features, three bedrooms, full bathroom, full kitchen, satellite TV, wireless high speed internet and a large deck for your enjoyment.  This cabin will sleep 6 –8 and is booking up fast for the upcoming season.  We have also rebuilt our garage / fish house due to loosing it in the flood and know offer our Brand New fish house which has both hot and cold running water and is know located behind our Central Washroom Building.

We had an incredible group of hunters/fisherman during our spring and fall seasons, and had the pleasure of once again hosting our good friend, Mr. Bob Kaleta of Zeiss Optics who Mike Schoby, editor of Petersens Hunting  came with , Mr. Luke Hartle of North American Hunterand Mr. Jim Crowley of Hook n Hunt TV.

We had to say goodbye to our old hunting retriever “HUNTER” as he is now in “Doggie Heaven” and miss him so much but knew that his time to leave us had come but thank him for being the best retriever and friend anyone could possibly have for 13 years.  We love and miss you old friend and hope you are watching over us from your favorite hunting spot in the sky…..

We welcomed our new addition to our hunting family “Henry” who we are so happy that “Hunter” got to meet before he left us.  “Henry” is quite the brute, not sure if he is going to need a mirror, can of hairspray and hairbrush before his photo shoot in the field, but hoping our “Tracker” can show him the ropes and how it is done!!  Time will tell this fall and will prove to be interesting with “Henry” in the field, but will be very entertaining.

Tracker is doing very well, misses his best friend “Hunter” but “Henry” has taken to keeping him busy which “Tracker” really loves.

Our two boys are doing very well; Brendan graduated from high school in June, and is apprenticing to become an electrician, so is quite busy with school and his on the job apprenticing and living on his own.  Jordan got his drivers license in December “OMG”, so I now no longer have to be a glorified taxi driver, lol!!  With them both growing up so fast things are really different and the dependant little boys they once were, are not as dependant anymore, sometimes I wish they would be toddlers again as they grew up way to fast and we were seriously not ready for these teenage years, lol.  Jordan helped us out with the  Waterfowl this past season, made it on Hook n Hunt’s TV Show and they both truly enjoy being around the hunters when they are able to.

I guided as much as I could this year, wish it was more but that’s the way it went and I had a blast doing it when I could and look forward to guiding again this upcoming 2012 Season.  It is so nice when you can share in with your hunters success,and the stories of their hunt are so interesting and I really enjoy listening to each and every one of you.

While at “The Lodge” you will experience home cooking at its finest with our own specialty dishes being prepared.  For the outdoorsman/outdoorswoman who treasure the outdoors, few things are as memorable as a hunting/fishing vacation in Canada’s North.  At Agassiz-Waterhen River Lodge we will work our hardest to assure you a memorable and everlasting experience.  Many hunters/anglers have expressed that the real pleasure has come from the treasured memories of past hunts and anticipation of the next one.  The magnificence of the early morning sunrise, the abundance of birds/wildlife and the comrade of fellow hunters/fisherman leave a lasting impression that keeps them coming back for more.

Once again thank you to all of our valued guests who visited us at our lodge this past 2011 season.  We enjoyed the company of past guests returning and new guests visiting us and created a whole lot of new memories while reminiscing on old ones, shared many laughs and just truly had an awesome time.

We look forward to hosting you on your upcoming 2012 hunting/fishing adventure.

Warmest Wishes,

Colleen Liske
