"25 Years of Outfitting Excellence!!"

The Bite Is On!!! River Full Of Walleye!!!!

As of yesterday, all anglers are catching limits of walleye as the spawn seems to be over. Lots of the bigger walleye over 28 inches are real active now too and so far the biggest walleye caught and released is 30 inches!!! Trolling rapalas real slow or still fishing right on the bottom with a jig and twister tail tipped with a frozen Lake Manitoba shiner seem to be working best so far. With the late spring, anglers should enjoy great fishing all summer long right into another awesome fall fishing season when the “monster” green backs start running up the river!!! Boat launches are in excellent shape. Looking forward to seeing everyone real soon on the Historic Waterhen River. Rip some lips……Rick

Just a reminder, we will have both live and frozen bait in the main lodge available, as well as ice, tackle, confectionery, boat launching, fish cleaning facilities, etc….Modern Cabins,boat/motor rentals, fully serviced campground also available upon request. To reserve your spot or for more information, please call 1-204-628-3491(LODGE).

2013 Fishing Season!!

We are just less than 6 weeks away to the start of another Manitoba Sport Fishing season here on the Historic Waterhen River and cant wait to see all of our great fishing guests once again!! Last year, over 350 “Master Angler” walleye (walleye 28 inches or bigger) where registered at the main lodge and this year we are looking to better it! Good luck to all anglers throughout the 2013 season and see you all real soon!!!

Waterhen River Ice Fishing

Due to the over whelming requests lately from fishing guests  for “ice shack” rentals, plans are in the works to start having them available for the 2013-14 ice fishing season on the Waterhen River. Currently we do not rent out ice shacks but have all our cabins open and available for rent for those that want to ice fish the river anyways, etc… I will keep you all informed with future updates on the “ice shack” rentals for next year.

Agassiz Ice Fishing Review

Went for a sled ride today to see how some of the guests were doing fishing and i arrived to late. The ones i talked to had their limits of walleye in no time using jack fish rigs tipped with frozen shiners, waterhen specials and swedish pimples. Lots of good sized pike too being caught all in about 5 feet of water! The ice is about 8 inches thick but fisherman still have to be cautious as they get closer to the mouth which will be good to fish come the “New Year”! What a great day to be out on the river with the sled and just for the record, threw 2 tip ups in just in front of the lodge and had my limits of walleye in about 1 hour. Fresh fish for supper, ha ha!

Agassiz-Waterhen Lodge Fishing Review

First off, a big thank you to all of our fishing guests who came to fish at our lodge this past spring, summer and fall angling seasons! Your support is greatly appreciated year after year! Just so you all know, over 350 “Master Angler” (MA) walleye where caught at our lodge. That is only the ones that we know of! Of the 350+ “MA” walleye, most where released which will help keep this fisherie “world class” for many, many years! Most anglers also witnessed amazing walleye fishing (all slot sizes) all summer long as the water levels remained and continue to stay high. The winner of our 3rd Annual Fishing Derby for Largest walleye for 2012 is Ken Soura of Swan River, Manitoba with a whopping 33.5 inches!!! Congratulations Ken! Also, a big thank you to all the guests that sent us your fishing pictures. Anyone else wanting to send any more fishing pictures of fish caught on the Waterhen River, can email them to us at: rick@agassizoutfitters.com

FYI-Some of our cabins will remain open year round now, as we always have alot of requests by anglers/snowmobilers so they can also enjoy the “world class” ice fishing for walleye, the Waterhen area has to offer. Please call the lodge for cabin rates and/or to reserve your spot for the 2012/13 ice fishing season. **COMING SOON,THE LODGE WILL ALSO HAVE “ICE FISHING HUTS” AVAILABLE FOR RENT WHICH WILL BE AVAILABLE ON A PER DAY BASIS.I WILL POST THIS ALSO WHEN THEY BECOME AVAILABLE**

Also, in the real near future, we will be posting most of the “NEW” 2012 fishing pictures which will be posted under the “Fishing Photo Galleries”. Watch for pictures of more MONSTER WALLEYE caught on the Historic Waterhen River! I will also keep posting, throughout the winter, more “Fishing Reviews/Updates” of the ice fishing and what guests are using and catching on. We already look forward and cant wait for the 2013 angling season and arrival of all our valued fishing guests! :) Rip some Lips……Rick

Agassiz Lodge Fishing Update

Fishing over the weekend remained great as all guests reported good catches. Trolling real slow with Rapalas or still fishing with jigs remains to be working best. The water temperature has dropped to 3 Celsius which was 11 just over a week ago. Congratulations to everyone who caught “Master Angler” walleye over the weekend and past week. The temperature is supposed to stay nice for both Monday and Tuesday so anglers still should see some great fishing.

Agassiz Lodge Fishing Update

Up until yesterday, the fishing on the rivers remained slow the last few days, as all kinds of cold fronts with strong north winds, went through the Waterhen area. That changed big time yesterday as all our fisherman from the Brandon and surrounding areas hammered the walleye, non-stop! Homer, i new you would make a great guide one day, ha ha!! Also, congratulations to the Conrad party of Montana for catching a whopping 6 “Master Angler” walleye last week even though the fishing was slower than normal, for this time of year. Way to go guys! The weather here today is light rain which is supposed to turn to light snow after mid night. So far the winds haven’t been strong today and the fish are still biting good today. If the weather holds up for the rest of October, the net 3 weeks should remain “World Class”! Rip some lips……Rick

Agassiz Lodge Fishing Update

Anglers from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, B.C., Germany, Australia, Montana, North Dakota and Minnesota, witnessed “WORLD CLASS WALLEYE” fishing at its finest this past weekend. 20 plus walleye 28 inches or bigger where caught as more and more of the bigger walleye keep moving into the river chasing the Lake Manitoba shiner run. Congratulations to everyone who caught a Manitoba Master Angler walleye. Nice to also see our great guests Tim and Peter Hoepner of McGregor,Mb. on catching another “monster” that measured in at 30 inches! Great job guys!!! Long term forecast looks great and if the weather does remain as nice as its been, October is only going to get better!! Trolling real slow, drifting with the current and still fishing are all working great. We still have lots of bait for sale at the lodge, serviced campground is in great shape and all boat launches open on the main Waterhen River. Hope to see everyone yet this fall for some more great fishing on the “HISTORIC” Waterhen River! Rip some Lips…….Rick

Agassiz Lodge Fishing Update

If the walleye fishing was any better on the main Waterhen River, we would have to put up another new fish house, LOL! Yesterday alone, 18 more walleye 28 inches or bigger where caught with the biggest topping 33 inches!!! Of the 18 “Master Angler” walleye, 15 where released and 3 are going on the wall. Congratulations to everyone on your success! This brings the total number of 28+ inch walleye well over the 300 mark for the season, just as predicted. With one more month yet and if the weather holds up, we could top the 400 mark. Crank baits are really working great as all kinds of walleye between 16 and 20 inches are being caught non-stop. :)
