Hello Everyone !

I would like to start off by thanking each and everyone of our guests that visited us at our lodge this past 2009 season. We had another amazing hunting and fishing season, once again. Although the weather wasn't the greatest for the summer months, guests still enjoyed the abundance of beauty our area has to offer and took advantage of the awesome walleye fishing once again.

Updates continue to take place at the lodge. Additions include new handcrafted pine furniture that was added to the dining room, new 20 hp Honda Boat Motors, upgraded poles and 30 amp service to campground, along with painting to the various cabins and buildings exterior and interior on lodge property. We are excited to finish the construction of our new fully winterized cabin this upcoming spring of 2010, watch for new pictures on the web to see the finished product. Upgrades also continued at our secluded Tan lake Outcamp.

While we geared up for another busy spring bear season in May, it was incredible as usual. The color phase bears that came through our camp and the ones that were sighted in the woods by the hunters made it for another awesome year and once again proved that we truly do have world class hunting in our area. It was a pleasure once again to host Bob Kaleta of Zeiss Optics. Accompanying Bob this past spring was also well known outdoor writer Dick Metcalf, along with his wife Kathy. Dick is a writer for Petersons Hunting, Guns & Ammo and Shooting Times. We also once again hosted Associate Editor of North American Hunter Magazine, Luke Hartle. Accompanying Luke this past spring was cameraman Lonnie Garland from NAH TV.

June was booked solid, as the fishing in front of the lodge, along the river was incredible. Guests did not have to venture far down the river to catch their limits, which was a treat. We had fishing guests from all over Manitoba/Saskatchewan/Alberta and the US visit our lodge this past fishing season to take in the great fishing our fishery has to offer.

Fishing continued to be good throughout the months of July and August and into the fall. Our 8 th Annual fishing derby/pig roast seen a large amount of people once again through the camp and was a huge success. Derby, Pig Roast, Horseshoe Tournament and Firework Display were enjoyed by everyone who attended. Congratulations to all of our winners in all categories of the fish derby. We will be running the August Long Weekend festivities over two days again for our 9 th Annual and plan to have Karaoke for all you aspiring singers. I will post event dates and happenings on our Agassiz News in the New Year. Please remember to reserve your cabins and camping spots as we are almost full once again for next year's event. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported this fun filled weekend.

We had the opportunity to host Casey Hawkes from Idaho accompanied by his dad on a “Hunt of a Lifetime” hunt in October and had the pleasure of having Dennis Anderson well renown dog trainer/outdoor writer for the Minneapolis/St. Paul Star Tribune return on another waterfowl hunt with his group.

I would like to thank all our guides who took over the kitchen duties for me when our young black lab “Tracker” had his accident this past fall, when we had to rush him to Dauphin and then on the Winnipeg for emergency surgery to save his leg. After under going two surgeries within a two week span, I would like to say he is know amazingly doing well. Doesn't quite understand still what happened and why he has to be on a tight leash until we are clear out of his recovery, which will extend beyond Christmas. I know he enjoyed all the hunters that checked in on him on a daily basis while he was bound to the laundry room in the main lodge. Although the disappointment he had to face for the remainder of the waterfowl season showed, he sure was excited to see you when he had a chance to. A big thank you to Dr. Roxanne Neufeld of Dauphin Vet. Hospital and to Dr. Murray Moffat of Transcona Vet. Hospital for your excellent care, we appreciate all you did and all the calls checking in on him when we brought him back to the lodge. Our old black lab “Hunter” kicked in and was amazing once again as he had to do double duty in retrieving birds while “Tracker” was recovering.

We are very saddened to share with you all the loss of two very dear guests of Agassiz Outfitters. Lorraine Howieson of Wyoming who visited us this past spring bear with her husband on his bear hunt. Lorraine got to experience world class fishing on the Waterhen during her stay with us. We are very glad we had the chance to meet you Lorraine; you were truly a pleasure to be around and have in camp. And our long time bear hunter and dear friend, Tim Bowers of Maryland, a.k.a. “Hank Williams Jr”. We are so glad we got to share with you all of the years of bear hunting you came up to do at our lodge and create so many everlasting memories that will always be with us. We dedicate this 2010 Bear Hunting Year to you as you would have been here again with us in the fall. We know you will be looking down on us from your tree stand in the sky awaiting that elusive black bear. We will miss you!!

While at “The Lodge” you will experience home cooking at it's finest with our own specialty dishes being prepared like the “Famous All-Canadian goose Stir Fry”, which is requested by all year after year. For the outdoorsman/outdoorswoman who treasure the outdoors, few things are as memorable as a hunting/fishing vacation in Canada's North. At Agassiz-Waterhen we will work our hardest to assure you a memorable and everlasting experience. Many hunters/anglers have expressed that the real pleasure has come from the treasured memories of past hunts and anticipation of the next one. The magnificence of the early morning sunrise, the abundance of birds/wildlife and the comrade of fellow hunters leave a lasting impression that keeps them coming back for more.

Once again thank you to all who visited us at our lodge this past 2009, as we truly had the chance to show you world class fishing and hunting at its finest. We enjoyed the company of past guests returning and new guests and created a whole lot of new memories while reminiscing on old ones, shared many laughs and just truly had an awesome time.

We look forward to hosting you on your upcoming 2010 hunting/fishing adventure.

Warmest Wishes,

Colleen Liske
